Delights in Dallas –ASG Tee Workshop and Fabrique Fabrics

Hey Everyone,

Back from my whirlwind trip to Dallas to teach my Tee Fit Workshop for the Fort Worth Texas ASG.  I have to say that every time of travel to teach for an ASG group, I have so much fun!   These ladies really know how to make you feel right at home!  I’m praying for some of the members to send me some pictures of the workshop so I can show you some of the action!  (I was so busy teaching that I forgot to whip my iphone out and snap some myself : )… I did however take some shots at one of the most amazing fabric stores I’ve ever been too!

I was greeted at the airport by Nancy.  Before dropping me off at the hotel, we stopped to check out a local fabric store, Fabrique.  When we got there, I was instantly drawn in by the fabric selection and by the store itself… The owner of the store, Lora Simonds, has a knack for interior design as well picking out beautiful fabrics!

This light, bright store is filled with unique  fixtures — vintage and antique wood pieces sprinkled around the floor to both display fabrics and notions.  Church pews held bolts of fabric…

This vintage fixture was filled with all sorts of cool sewing notions…My favorite were the little pattern weights made out of ultra suede… very clever!

Check out this antique bed…. it’s transformed into a cutting table!!!

Not to be out shined by the fixtures, the fabrics are incredible.  Lora explained to me that she sits down with her employees and they pick out the inventory for the store together… That way there’s something that will appeal to everyone!  In addition to a huge selection of knits (I bought some)… and cottons, silks, rayons and wools galore, (bought some of those too) there was an amazing selection of specialty and bridal fabrics!  …Of course, displayed by beautiful fixtures :)

If you’re new to sewing or just need help finding the right piece of fabric for your garment, a fabric store is only as good as its staff… I had the pleasure to meet some of them during my visit, and they were very helpful!

If you’re ever in the Plano TX area it’s definitely worth a visit…. But if you have no plans to travel that way, don’t panic!   …. They have an excellent on-line store as well!  It’s easy to navigate, and  there’s a very helpful “Fabric Search” feature….  Check it out!       Hope you enjoyed!  Stay tuned for more sewing fun~  Happy Day :)
