Pants Fit Workshop Update

Hey Everyone,

I’m sorry for not posting lately… I’ve been so busy with school and work that I’ve been completely neglectful of my blog :(       But, I’ve made huge progress with my new Pants Fit Workshop.   I’m striving to come up with an easier way to fit pants. After spending tons of time working on Jeans, I’ve decided that developing different pant slopers that are designed for different body types is really the way to go.   So far, I’ve been working on three different shapes…. Average (meaning that waist, hip, thigh measurements are all proportional to each other) — Shape II (Prominent Butt and Thighs, flat Tummy) and Shape III (Prominent Butt, Tummy and Thighs).

After making slopers for each body type I’ve been fitting them to real bodies.   I’m learning  A LOT– and burned through a LOT of muslin!!!!     Here’s a picture of my final muslin…

I still needed a little room in the butt, but otherwise, I’m really happy with the fit of these pants.  I can sit down without them creeping down… and the crotch curve is very comfortable.   I’m going to make them up into some capris and bermuda shorts so I can test live in them!

Here’s what the muslin looked like before my last set of adjustments…

I got rid of most of the wrinkles on the back leg and under the butt….   I’m carefully documenting all the adjustments that I’ve made so I can create my Pant Fit Workbook.  The other two shapes are also coming along too… Here’s a pic of Shape III, prominent butt, tummy and thighs.

I need to add a little more room/length to the crotch and I think they will be Great!   Stay tuned… I promise to post more often now

  1. I’m following your pant alterations with great interest. While I’m thrilled to see you’re going to work on 3 body types, I fear you’re missing mine – thick waist, average hips, flat butt. It’s an inverted triangle curse.
