Super talented Sanford Brown College Student Illustrating the Cover for my New Skirt Pattern
Posted by Jennifer Stern on Sep 19, 2012 in Posts by Subject, Workshops | 1 commentYay…. I’m on home stretch for completing my new skirt pattern. I’m so excited about this pattern, and it’s been a lot of fun for me to work on… I originally drafted it years ago when I was working at Manchester Sewing. It’s been sitting in my “I need to adjust and finalize” pile for a long time! When I was lucky enough to get a wonderful fashion intern over the summer, I put her to work on proofing the pattern sheet and making samples. She was amazing! I don’t think I would have had the time to get it done without her.
Now I’m finalizing the instructions and working on the cover. As you may have noticed, the last skirt I came out with… The Ribbon Skirt… has a lackluster cover. All text and logo with no image. …. Yucky. Last week one of my fashion students who has recently finished the program came in to my classroom for a visit. We spent some time discussing his future fashion career plans…. As we were talking, I got a brilliant idea
I asked Luis if he would be interested in a part-time gig…. Illustrating covers for my new patterns… and so j stern designs has its first paid employee!
Today, he came in today to start sketching… I decided to pair the “Godet Go Nite Skirt” with the Tee. Then we worked on the technical aspects of the sketches so the seam details would be obvious… I can’t wait to see how they come out… I give him free creative license with regard to color… (you know, because I’m such a plain Jane!!) I’m thrilled to have such a talented sketch artist working on my pattern covers. It will be interesting to see what you guys think!
Stay tuned! We should have this wrapped up in a week or so! … Maybe for Novi??
